Burning wood

Yellowstone N.P.
Burnt into pine wood

The first wood burning since moving to Baltimore. Unfortunately, no cedar boards to be found "out East," so had to settle for pine. Less delicious smell, but great contrast nonetheless. A freak eye injury in August kept me locked in a dark room for 3 days watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother and creating this, just like the good ol' days at the Wisteria Estates. Finished with enough time to make it Molly Colgan's wedding gift. Fitting, since she was with me when the picture was taken! Happy marriage Molly and Pat!

In the beginning...

Pablo Picasso said, “Painting is not done to decorate apartments. It is an instrument of war.” I did not set out to be a conventional artist, nothing about my work, or my lifestyle, is conventional. I have never felt that I fit into a category and out of this frustration I began searching for identity. The field of community arts is the marriage I was looking for – it speaks to both the political being and the artist inside me in a holistic expression of freedom.

As I embark on this journey, with my band of fellow misfits, I will remind myself and each other of why we are here. Baltimore.... I love you!?
